Hurricane Helene Community Care Fund

Many members of the Second Breath community live in the mountain towns hardest hit by Hurricane Helene. In the days and weeks since Western North Carolina was submerged by raging waters, as folks have gotten cell service and made contact, we’ve been hearing pained stories of unimaginable loss, and of survivalist’s resilience.

People are assessing damages and immediate needs – for short-term housing, clothes, temporary office space and replacement office equipment – and beginning the weary walk down what will be a very long road to recovery.

The call for mutual aid has become more focused. What we’ve heard our Second Breath people most need right now are direct cash funds.

To meet this call, we have built a scrappy community care infrastructure where folks who are able can donate funds, and folks who are in need can request funds. Participate below.

RECEIVE CARE

To accept the generosity of community care and request to be in the pool of folks who receive disbursements in November, fill out this short Google form anytime before Monday, November 11.

Claire and Elizabeth at Second Breath will have visibility into form submissions. Otherwise, personal identifying information will be kept  private.

GIVE CARE

To donate to the community care fund, send money to Second Breath’s PayPal. We will be accepting donations through Sunday, November 10

(the next 3 weeks).

100% of funds received will be passed through to community members.

We will disburse all donated funds equally among Second Breath members who have hand-raised to accept the generosity of community care. We will have all funds disbursed by the week of Thanksgiving.

Make presence, practice, and purpose accessible to all.
