The year is 1945. In the deserts of Egypt, near the city of Nag Hammadi, ancient hidden scrolls are being unearthed. For centuries, these texts had been buried and hidden deep underground.

They contain what would come to be known as the “lost” teachings of Jesus. 

These texts – which include the Gospel of Thomas – are met with much skepticism and controversy, even to this day. Their rediscovery offers a new and radical way to understand Jesus.

Unlike the four canonical gospels which provide chronological narratives about the life of Jesus, the Gospel of Thomas is a collection of Jesus’ direct teachings, which he shared with his disciples and followers. In these teachings, Jesus illuminates the nature of God and the kingdom of heaven as well as the meaning of living and dying.

During this workshop, we’ll explore the history and context of the Gospel of Thomas and several of the teachings contained therein. Through contemplative reading, journaling, and small group circle discussions, we will engage our own three-centered intelligence to discern what these lessons reveal about Jesus as a wisdom teacher and his message. And we’ll sense into what meaning they hold for our spiritual journeys today.

This workshop is facilitated by Marilyn Wolf, a long-time student and teacher with kinward. Marilyn has studied the Gospel of Thomas for many years with Cynthia Bourgeault and on her own, using it as part of her spiritual practice. She loves to share it with others as a unique way to understand Jesus as a teacher of enlightenment and to deepen their spiritual lives regardless of their own faith foundation.

As part of an effort to help those that are facing financial difficulties, we announced a price decrease for 2026 workshops and course offerings. The price for this workshop was originally $75, but we are now offering it for $15. We think this reduces the barrier for those that are facing economic challenges and also fulfills our desire to swing our doors wide open, be here for the world as it is, and be a place for folks to come to in this time.
