Ashley McCarthy

MA, LCMHC, Therapist, Guest Facilitator

Ashley has a keen interest in daily or “ordinary” life where our beliefs and values intersect with people and places and the choices we make. Paying attention to stories and narratives guides her work and way of living.  In a world obsessed with how things appear and look, she finds her homestate’s motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be rather than to seem), helpful in staying grounded and not losing track of her own story.

As a longtime spiritual and meditation practitioner, Ashley incorporates a variety of practices and interventions into her work as a psychotherapist and facilitator.  Some of her interests and foci of training include: Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness, Somatic Self Compassion, Grief & Loss, Attachment, Post traumatic-Growth and Interpersonal Neurobiology.

A few of her hobbies and pleasures include: cooking and meal-sharing; yoga, hiking, reading poetry; early morning quiet, cortados, close friends, forest bathing, a good blazer and libraries.

She and her husband have literally climbed mountains and descended valleys as wilderness guides and figuratively done the same in their over 30  years of marriage. They are each other’s greatest adventure. Getting to live in the N. C. mountains still gives her goose bumps. Her twin son and daughter are her biggest surprise and she loves surprises; especially the kind she likes.
